GS8: Oil Movements & Product Quality Consultants
Location: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Responsibilities :

The Oil and Gas Logistics, Crude Oil and Product Quality Group, is one of 3 groups in a cluster that provides services to Supply/ Distribution and at their interfaces with Manufacturing. Services are provided to refineries, gas plants, terminals and depots, as well as to other Shell Global Solutions (GS) groups and support activities (e.g. head office activities).

Control of product quality can impact significantly on client profitability and market reputation. GS offers a range of product quality related technical consultancy services in the areas of Product Centred Refining, Laboratory performance, Product Movements, Product integrity (contamination) control in the supply chain, Blending and Biofuels.

These services include targeted margin improvement and refinery Master Planning studies, training, safety and integrity reviews and project support. Customers include a broad spectrum of Shell Group and non-Shell Operating Units and refiners, Chemical Industry, Exploration and Production, and trading companies.

The 3 groups have strong links with the GS Consultancy group and contributes to refinery Master Planning, Hydrocarbon margin improvement programs and Pacesetting Consultancy Services. Our services are designed to enable customers to become more competitive in the preparation and delivery of the right quantity and quality of feedstocks and products at the right time, in the right place by the most appropriate transportation mode.

The GSLM group currently comprises some 40 professionals with a wide range of skills and competency profiles. The main operating sites are in The Hague, Amsterdam and Kuala Lumpur. As part of the team, your key responsibilities include:

* Developing and reviewing operational and safety procedures for oil movements installations;

* Participating in and providing oil movements support for revamps and new design projects;

* Participating in and providing leadership of oil movements masterplanning studies, basic process designs for tankage, jetties and movements between them as well as assistance during the engineering procurement contracting phase;

* Provide leadership and vision in the area of Product Quality Management (PQM) for the supply chain, in support of our main internal customers strategy in this area;

* Translate this vision into an integrated Global Solutions service delivery, covering all the relevant Delivery Groups in the area of PQM;

* Troubleshooting quality incidents with Shell operational companies and develop learning from these incidents;

* Providing help desk support for customers;

* Teaching training courses at customer sites and centrally;

* Traveling (up to 30%) to customer locations plus participation in consultancy studies such as hydrocarbon management reviews (typically 1-3 week assignments at the customer site);

* Mentoring and guidance to more junior staff members.


Requirements :

* The cluster of 3 groups cover a particularly diverse range of technology services that span all sectors of oil and gas industry. Most typically our services focus on the interfaces between manufacturing assets and the outside world. It is therefore of particular importance that networks and synergies with both internal and external customers and colleagues are established and maintained.

* The candidate should be able to liaise with and influence customers at all levels in the business. Individuals are given freedom, responsibility and support in their work as appropriate, and there will be opportunities to contribute to the development of the group.

* Applicants should have good interpersonal skills and the ability to deal effectively with both Shell and non-Shell customers. They should be able to work alone or as a part of a team.

* The applicant should (preferably) have a degree in Chemical Engineering and more than 7 years experience in refining with a significant portion of that time spent in Supply Chain Logistics and/or Product Quality technology.

GS8: Technologist - Energy, Utilities, Water


Location: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Responsibilities :

The Utilities business group's expertise spans the whole field of utilities including steam & power systems, fuel gas and hot oil systems, process water applications, water treatment as well as the related waste treatment technology. The group offers a full range of services, from conceptual design studies via project definition to operational advice and troubleshooting. Our services are designed to enable customers to become more competitive in dealing with their utility generation and water handling. You will be part of an enthusiastic team with a wide range of skills and competency profiles. The group has establishments in Amsterdam, Houston and in Kuala Lumpur.

On a day-to-day basis:

* You will provide operational advice and systems design/troubleshooting services to clients from both within and outside the Shell Group across the Asia-Pacific region as well as internationally.

* Working as part of a multi-discipline consultancy team, you will contribute to the design and delivery of Asset Management Improvement programs. These programs will focus on assuring plant integrity, improving reliability, reducing costs, and creating sustained improvement in human competence and performance.

* You will work with staff at all levels, to implement change initiatives with the end goal of achieving excellence in plant operations, plant maintenance, plant turnarounds and plant start-ups on existing as well as new assets.


Requirements :

* You must have an Engineering degree, with a minimum of 10 years' operational experience in a refinery/chemical or LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) plant.

* You will have worked in either a technological or hands-on position, with design and/or hands-on involvement in the main refinery processes.

* You will have experience of providing operational and facility development/ design services in any of the above mentioned fields of Utilities and Water treatment.

* These are high profile positions with an international remit and traveling will be required.

GS8: Technologist - Catalytic Reforming


Location: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Responsibilities :

Our group provides technical support services to client refiners both within and outside the Shell Group in the areas of catalytic reforming, alkylation, isomerisation and polymerisation from offices in Amsterdam, Houston and Kuala Lumpur. Our efforts are geared to selecting the best licenser technology and catalysts available on the market and to achieving pacesetting performance at our customer refineries.

As part of the team, your responsibilities include:

* Troubleshooting, monitoring and optimisation of unit operations;

* Lead/participate in revamps and new design projects;

* Technology developments and innovation;

* Inspection of internals, start-up, shutdown, regeneration and catalyst handling;

* Selection of optimal catalyst for site-specific feed/operating conditions;

* Interaction with and evaluation of technology suppliers;

* Leading and organizing information exchange conferences & customer training courses.


Requirements :

* Minimum of 7 years' refinery operations support experience, including 2 years in the areas of platforming/catalytic reforming and/or alkylation.

* Applicants with hydrocracking experience will also be considered, and isomerisation experience is an added advantage.

* Experienced with Pro II and other modelling/simulation tools.

* Refinery economics & scheduling knowledge as well as experience in design and project related work will be advantageous.

* Strong interpersonal skills and the flexibility/ability to work effectively as a member of virtual global teams, is highly desirable.

* Experienced in making presentations and writing technical reports.

* These are high profile positions with an international remit and travelling will be required.

GS8: Carbon & Energy Management Consultants


Location: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Responsibilities :

The Oil and Gas Logistics, Crude Oil and Product Quality Group, is one of 3 groups in a cluster that The Carbon & Energy Management team is part of the consultancy group. The team delivers implemented and proven performance improvement programmes at the both SHELL and non-SHELL customer's site. As part of the team, your responsibilities include:

* monitor and optimise unit operations;

* identify and design basic solutions for design improvements;

* define requirements for control/instrumentation improvements;

* being familiar with best maintenance practices and reliability improvements;

* analyse systems and propose energy efficiency improvements, define testruns, comply with the site's management of change procedures and get the proposed changes implemented, document performance improvements and get these approved by the customer;

* Leading and organizing information exchange meetings & training courses.


Requirements :

* Minimum 10 years of experience in refining, chemicals or petrochemicals operations with active involvement in energy & efficiency improvement programmes.

* Able to identify root causes and solutions for problems associated with process plant operations.

* Design or operational experience on process units, such as distillation columns, utilities & process equipment with good understanding of best practices in these unit operations will be required.

* Experience with modelling/simulation tools such as Pro II, Aspen or HYSYS is essential.

* Must be familiar with data analysis and applied statistics.

* Candidates with strong communication & presentation skills and the ability to work effectively as a member of virtual global teams will be viewed favourably.

* Must be willing to be based at customer's site for periods of up to 12 months per project.
